Died, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Maggie Doctor, near Oelwein, Iowa, July 13th, 1897, Wilson Miller. The deceased was born near Danville, Illinois, July 1, 1825; hence at the time of his decease he was aged 71 years, 12 days. For a number of years he had suffered much, but he bore it all with patience and Christian fortitude. The deceased, in early life, united with the Baptist church, in connection with which he remained a consistent member to the time of his death. He was married to Miss Sarah Steel in 1851, who died in 1860, leaving three children, Isabella, who died in 1895 and William and Maggie survive their parents.
The deceased was noted for his quiet, earnest, belief of the doctrines he professed. In his religious life, he was not noisy and pretentious. He believed more in the life of religion than in the noise and show of a mere profession. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter and conducted by Rev. D. Powell, pastor of the Oelwein Baptist Church. One noted and impressive scene was observed at the funeral service. The chair of the deceased was draped and sat empty by the casket, containing his lifeless remains. On the chair hung a card, "Father has gone to his rest". Many friends and acquaintances were present to honor and pay their respects to the deceased.
