Floyd Mettlin, son of the late Charlie and Mary Everett Mettlin, was born on June 15th, 1902, east of Oelwein. He died at the home of his daughter, Helen, where he had been the past three weeks. He had been in failing health for several years and unable to work.

He was married to Gladys Secrist in 1929. The couple had four children.

A member of the American Legion of Oelwein, he served in World War II.

Survivors include his daughter, Helen Buhr of Sumner, son Jerry of Seattle, Washington, five grandchildren, three sister, Mrs. Norman Frye Jr. of Independence, Mrs. Fred Blech of Oelwein and Mrs. Cecil Johnson of St. Joseph, Missouri; also a brother Earl of Little York, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Infant daughter, and son Lawrence, who was killed in Korea.
