Funeral services for Garland E. Trower, 79, of Maynard, Iowa, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein with the Rev. Darwin Moore officiating.

Visitation was scheduled for 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard, and for one hour prior to services today at the church.

Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard, is in charge of arrangements.

Garland died at his home Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2007, following a brief illness.

Garland Everette Trower was born April 9, 1928, in Fayette to George Edward and Irene Esther (Kaune) Trower.

He graduated from West Central High School in Maynard in 1946.

On April 15, 1948, Garland married Doris Dallenbach at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein. Five children were born to this union. The couple farmed northeast of Oelwein for many years. They later divorced.

Garland also worked for the Maynard Co-op, hauled milk for the creamery, and drove a semi for North American Van Lines. In 1979 he moved to Maynard and worked at Cannon's Greenhouse in Westgate during his retirement.

Garland was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein, the Farm Bureau, and was a volunteer at the Mental Health Institute in Independence.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Alice Graesch.

Surviving are his five children, Phyllis (L. Charles "Woody") Decker of Independence, Pam (Duane) Walker of Oelwein, Jacquie (Ralph) Heinze of Jesup, Don (Kathy) Trower and Barb Trower, both of Bakersfield, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Bernie (Helen) Trower of Waterloo; nieces and nephews.
