Robert G. "Bob" Heiserman, 88, formerly of West Union, Iowa, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Richmond Hill, Ga.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 8, at Richmond Hill Funeral Home, Cox Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Bolen officiating.
Robert G. Heiserman was born April 27, 1919, in West Union to Ethel and Moral Lincoln Heiserman.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and later tested into the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a flight instructor and squadron operations officer of the 5th Fighter Squadron in Europe during World War II.
Bob met his wife, Nancy Mildred Wardlow, while stationed in Venice, Fla.
Upon leaving the military in 1946, Bob received his Bachelor of Science degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette and his master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh's School of Retailing. His early working career was in the retail industry. On retirement, Bob had advanced to divisional merchandise manager for many retail chains.
After his retirement from retail, Bob changed his focus and purchased Turner County Motor Company, the Chevrolet dealership in Ashburn, Ga., his wife's hometown. He ran the dealership until 1981.
Bob and Nancy then retired to Cape San Blas, Fla., before moving to Panama City, Fla., in 1991.
After the death of his wife and due to recent health problems, Bob had recently moved to Richmond Hill, Ga., to live with his daughter.
Bob was a Mason, a Rotarian, and a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Panama City.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by a son, Robert G. Heiserman of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Peggy (Skip) Gillenwater of Richmond Hill, Ga.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
