Funeral services for Donald Steffans were held Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Schutte's Clermont Funeral Chapel in Clermont, Iowa, with the Reverend Dwight Albers officiating. Special music was provided by Connie Ellis, organist and Arthur Amundson and Clarence Amundson. Casket Bearers were Marty Larson, Cody Steffans, Mike Steffans, Chad Moeller, Steve Peters, and Mark Schott. Honorary Casket Bearers were Melissa, Zachery, Mitchell, Jacob, Isaac, Amber, Jade, and Brooke. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont with Military Honors by Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post 375.
Donald Eugene Steffans was born December 10, 1928, to William and LaSena (Kruger) Steffans, at Elgin, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, September 29, 2007, in the Good Samaritan Center at West Union, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, 9 months, and 19 days.
Don attended the Clermont school. He was inducted into the U S Army in May of 1951. In November, he was sent to Korea to serve as a driver in a transport unit. Don was married to Wilma E. Quandahl on January 20, 1954, at Preston, Minnesota. He worked on his father's and uncle's farm, Larson's Roofing in Clermont, and the Firestone Store in Decorah. In 1955 Don and Wilma moved to Harmony, Minnesota where he worked for Bigalk Chevy until 1962. They then moved to Clermont, Iowa where he worked for Clermont Implement for 28 _ years. Don retired in December of 1990. He worked with wood, making many items which included children's tables and chairs. In October of 2002 he had a stroke and wasn't able to continue with his hobby.
Don passed his skill of working with engines and wood to his children. He liked to ride his mobile scooter around town so that he could spend time visiting with his friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Gary L. Steffans and Roger L. Steffans.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma, a daughter, Ruth Larson, Clermont, IA, three sons, Donald "Dean" (Karla) Steffans, Decorah, IA, Gregory L. Steffans, Somerset, KY, and Richard W. (Nicole) Steffans, Postville, a daughter-in-law, Lynn Steffans, Postville, ten grandchildren, Marty Larson, Melissa (Chad) Moeller, Mike (April) Steffans, Cody Steffans, Zachery Steffans, Mitchell Steffans, Jacob Steffans, Isaac Steffans, two step grandchildren, Cody and Stephanie Cronin, and three great grandchildren, Amber Moeller, Jade Moeller, Brooke Steffans.
