Shirley June Shimek, 79, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, Oct. 12, at St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial was in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer officiated.

Shirley June Shimek was born May 23, 1928 in Fayette, Iowa, the daughter of Atrus and Lottie (Moore) Stepp. She married Robert Shimek on April 2, 1950 in Nashua. Shirley was a legal secretary for many years. She was a member of the National Association of Legal Secretaries and was once chosen Legal Secretary of the Year. Shirley enjoyed sewing, her flowers, and animals of all kinds. Shirley also loved to spend time with her family and her friends

Preceding Shirley in death were her parents and a brother, Wayne Stepp.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, Robert, are a daughter, Jan Borst (Tom) of Springville; two sons, Jeff Shimek (Judy) of Walker and Jim Shimek (Julie) of Fairfax; four grandchildren, Mike, Shelly, Jennifer and Jill; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Vera Stepp Splinter of Fayette.

A memorial fund has been established.
