Funeral services for Donald E. Steffans, 78, of Clermont were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, at Schutte's Clermont Funeral Chapel in Clermont. The Rev. Dwight Albers officiated.

Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont. Military honors were conducted by Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post 375. Casket bearers were Marty Larson, Cody Steffans, Mike Steffans, Chad Moeller, Steve Peters and Mark Schott.

Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Donald died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the West Union Good Samaritan Center following a brief illness.

Donald Eugene Steffans was born Dec. 10, 1928, in Elgin to William and LaSena (Kruger) Steffans. He attended the Clermont school.

In May 1951, Donald was inducted into the U.S. Army. In November of that year, he was sent to Korea to serve as a driver in a transport unit.

On Jan. 20, 1954, Donald married Wilma E. Quandahl in Preston, Minn.

He worked on his father's and uncle's farms, Larson's Roofing in Clermont, and the Firestone Store in Decorah. In 1955, Don and Wilma moved to Harmony, Minn., where he worked for Bigalk Chevy until 1962. They then moved to Clermont, where Don worked for Clermont Implement for over 28 years. He retired in 1990.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sons, Gary L. Steffans and Roger L. Steffans.

Donald is survived by his wife, Wilma, of Clermont; a daughter, Ruth Larson of Clermont; three sons, Donald "Dean" (Karla) Steffans of Decorah, Gregory L. Steffans of Somerset, Ky., and Richard W. (Nicole) Steffans of Postville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
