Opal O. Pixler 1920-2007

Opal O. Pixler, 87, of Oelwein, formerly of West Union, died Monday morning, Oct. 1, 2007, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union following a long illness.

Services were held Friday, Oct. 5, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. John Kerr officiating.

Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.

Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, was in charge of arrangements.

Opal Oleah Nefzger was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Albany, Ia. She was the daughter of Elmer Simon and Eva Pearl (Scott) Nefzger.

After graduating from Fayette High School in 1939, Opal earned her two-year normal degree from Upper Iowa University, Fayette, in 1941. She taught grade school in Hawkeye and Stanley during World War II.

On Nov. 25, 1943, Opal was united in marriage with Ralph Ernest Pixler at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union. The couple lived in West Union for many years.

After Ralph's death on Dec. 28, 1981, Opal moved to Oelwein to live with her son, Dennis, and his wife, Mary.

Opal was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church in Oelwein.

In addition to her husband, Opal was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Doyle Nefzger and Dale Nefzger.

She is survived by her son, Dennis (Mary) Pixler of Oelwein; three brothers, Duane "Bud" (Ardath) Nefzger of Apache Junction, Ariz., Robert (Marlys) Nefzger of Fayette, and Paul "Dick" (Helen) Nefzger of Clinton, Mo.; a sister, Shirley "Joan" Smith of Fayette; nieces and nephews.
