Valeria E. Gerholdt 1913-2007

Valeria E. Gerholdt, 93, of Waterloo died at Windsor Care Center in Cedar Falls on Thursday evening, Oct. 4, 2007.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 8, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Valeria E. "Val" (House) Weston Gerholdt was born Nov. 24, 1913, in Fayette County. She was the daughter of Guy L. and Nora E. (Miller) House.

On April 7, 1936, Val married Harley L. Weston in West Union; they were later divorced.

On Nov. 11, 1961, she was wed to Chester A. Gerholdt in Preston, Minn.; he preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 1981.

Val worked as a clerk at Black's Department Store in Waterloo for 20 years, retiring in 1975.

In addition to her husband, Chester, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Ronald, Aulden, Averill, George, Robert, Daryl, Donald, and Richard House; two sisters, Lora House and Kathryn Berken; and two grandchildren.

Val is survived by three sons, Jack J. (Teresa) Weston and Robert W. (Judy) Weston, both of Waterloo, and David H. (Carol) Weston of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Harlean K. Hackbarth of Overland, Mo.; a brother, Karlton House of Hawkeye; a sister, Marilyn Klatt, also of Hawkeye; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
