Funeral services for LaVonne R. Dancer, 62, of Alpha were held Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Richfield, rural Sumner. The Rev. Harold Peterson officiated.

Interment was in the Alpha Cemetery. Casket bearers were Alden Richards, Donnie Snyder, Raymond Snyder, Greg Kilcher, Alan Dancer and Alex Dancer.

Arrangements were handled by the Waucoma Funeral Chapel, Waucoma.

LaVonne's death occurred Tuesday morning, Sept. 18, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in New Hampton.

LaVonne Ruth (Hinecker) Dancer, daughter of Oren and Cora (McCall) Hinecker, was born Oct. 3, 1944, in Charles City.

On Dec. 17, 1960, LaVonne was united in marriage with Marvin J. Dancer at Faith United Church in Tripoli. Five children were born to this union.

The family lived in Tripoli, Frederika, and New Hampton before moving to Alpha in 1972. LaVonne was a homemaker. Marvin worked for John Deere Co. in Waterloo and retired in 1994. In the spring of 1995 he got involved with thoroughbred horse racing, and LaVonne traveled with Marvin until the spring of 2004, when her health began to fail.

Preceding LaVonne in death were her parents; a son, Russell; three brothers, Art, James and Lyle Wyant; and a sister, Lois Mae Montgomery.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin; three sons, Scott (Corrie) Dancer of Stillwater, Minn., Randy (Jan) Dancer of Waldport, Ore., and Loren (Magen) Dancer of Bosseir City, La.; a daughter, Dawn (Tom) Rolison of Fredericksburg; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores (Dennison) Leitch of Charles City and Lois Jane Kirk-Schwake of Waterloo; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
