Jerome C. "Jerry" Knight, 55, of Solon, formerly of West Union, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, following a short illness.

Jerry was born in West Union to Garland and Mary Knight. He attended Holy Name Catholic School and North High School, where he was active in sports and Scouting.

Jerry spent most of his career working for Seedorff Masonry, where he was a bricklayer and superintendent. He had a passion for hard work and quality workmanship.

Jerry was also passionate about life and about his family. He had a deep and enduring love for his soulmate, Mary, and also for his loving children. He loved to work outdoors and to fish and camp with his family.

Driven to help others, whether he was serving as a volunteer firefighter in Coralville or taking garden vegetables to food pantries in the local area, Jerry was always looking for ways to serve his friends and neighbors. He had many dear friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother, Mary; a sister, Janet (Paul) Sieverding; and three nieces, Jill Peters, Marissa Marshall, and Sarah Jaeger.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his sons Jeremy and Nicholas; a daughter, Kate (Kevin) Chalupa; and a stepdaughter, Rebecca Shirazi.

Additional survivors include his father, Garland Knight of West Union; six sisters, Jane Marshall, Jeanette (Dale) Buenzow, Judy (Crayton) Ash, Janice (Tim) Underdahl, Joanne Frey, Julie Eckhoff; two brothers, James and Joseph (Judy); 49 nieces and nephews; and 59 great-nieces and -nephews.
