JOSEPH HENRY WANDER

Joseph Henry Wander, son of John and Christina (Michel) Wander, was born May 10, 1906 in Fayette County near Castalia, Iowa. He passed away Monday, October 19, 1992 in Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He had reached the age of 86 years, 5 months and 9 days.

He was baptized at Ossian, Iowa and attended the rural school near his home as well as the Castalia and Ossian Schools. On December 17, 1930 he was married to Celia Clara Martie at the parsonage in Decorah, by the Rev. Glesne. To this union five children were born.

They farmed near Clermont. Joe also did some trucking and had maintained his chauffeur's license until he died. He had also been employed by Niemann Construction Company and Reilly Construction Company. Joe worked in construction until he was 71 years old, then worked with his sons on their farms.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gene, a great granddaughter, Janice Wander and two brothers, Jacob and Lloyd Wander.

Surviving are his wife, Celia, 3 sons, Gerald and his wife, Sandy and Keith Wander, all of Clermont, and Duane and his wife, Marilyn of Riverside, CA; a daughter, Linda and her husband, Jerry Anderson of Clermont; 11 grandchildren, Jack, Allen and Kent Wander and Lynn Hedrick; Lori Bushman and Mike Lantz; Randy Wander, Cindy Green and Kim Weatherred; and Tami Miller and Shane Anderson; 15 great grandchildren, Ashley and Adam Wander, Dusty and Lissa Hedrick, Amber and Desiree Wander, Travis Wander, Tifani, Tyler and Tony Bushman; Cory Wander, Melissa and Shawna Green, Nicole Weatherred and Jodie Miller; 2 brothers, Phillip Wander of Castalia and George Wander and his wife, Caroline of Postville; a sister, Margaret Schweinefus of West Union and a daughter-in-law, Margaret Wander of Mason City, IA.

Joe was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved to joke with them. He had a great sense of humor. Joe also enjoyed working in his large gardens and loved to do his own creative cooking.

Services held Friday, October 23, 1992 at 1:30 p.m.
