Arnold Jacobson, 92, died Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, in the Good Samaritan Home, West Union, of an age-related illness. Services were Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 at Zion Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. David Grant. Burial was at West Union Cemetery.

Arnold Jacobson was born July 21, 1910 at Ossian, IA to Ole and Gina (Hope) Jacobson. He was baptized August of 1910 at Washington Prairie Church near Decorah. Arnold attended rural schools near Ossian. On April 11, 1931 he was married to Hilda Hanson at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, MN. They lived in Minnesota a few years and then moved to Ossian, IA and farmed. In 1949 they moved to a farm near West Union.

In 1960 Arnold sold all the farm equipment and drove a school bus and worked in maintenance at West Union Hospital for 15 years. He also worked at the Good Samaritan Home for 14 years, retiring at the age of 80. He became a resident of Good Samaritan Home on Sept. 20, 1999.

Survivors include 3 sons, Harold (Bud) and wife Edna Jacobson of Decorah; Gordon and wife Judy Jacobson of Clermont, and LaVerne (Buster) Jacobson of West Union: 4 daughters, Betty (Mrs. Lloyd) Monroe of Castalia; Marjorie (Mrs. Jim) Monroe and Lois (Mrs. Lyle) Johanson all of West Union; and Judy (Mrs. John) Hyman of Postville. Also 2 brothers, George (Violet) Jacobson of Austin, MN and Earling Jacobson of Minneapolis, MN; 35 grandchildren and 75 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Hilda in 1999; 2 sons, Robert and John; 1 great grandson, Cory Rothmeyer; 2 daughters-in-law, Mary Jacobson and Darlene Jacobson Olson.
