Thelma Henderson

Funeral services for Thelma Henderson were held Friday, June 8, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church, with the Reverend Dwight Albers officiating. The organist was Janet Helgerson. The casket bearers were: Gregg Palmer, Jim Ramnes, Paul Nevanen, Jeffrey Wood, Franklin Nevanen, and Ralph Henderson. Burial was in God's Acres Cemetery at Clermont. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Annette (Reierson) Henderson was born April 15, 1917, at Eldorado, Iowa, to Oscar and Pauline (Watne) Reierson. She passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2007, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa, at the age of 90 years, one month and 20 days. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Thelma graduated from the Clermont High School and attended Upper Iowa University to receive her teaching certificate. She taught for a time in the country schools.

On December 28, 1938 Thelma was married to James Alfonso Henderson in the Lutheran Church at Ossian, Iowa. To this union two children were born.

Thelma was a loving wife and partner to her husband in their farming career, which lasted for almost 50 years, from 1938 to 1987. They lived in Clermont for a short time, and then Thelma moved to Cedar Court at West Union in 2000 before becoming a resident of Maple Crest Manor in Fayette in 2006. She enjoyed cooking, reading, knitting and entertaining family and friends in their home. Thelma was also active in the community taking the census in 1970, and was a volunteer in reading and making recordings for the blind. She later made use of that service herself as her eye sight began to fail.

Thelma was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA, and served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Farm Bureau Women and the Clermont Study Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jim, who died in 1998, two infant sisters and an infant brother.

Surviving are a daughter, Helen Kay (David) Ramnes, International Falls, MN, and a son, Bert Oscar (Zelpha) Henderson, Castalia, IA; four grandchildren, James (Valerie) Ramnes, Wadena, MN, Denise (Paul) Nevanen, International Falls, MN, Dr. Helen J. (Jeffrey) Wood, Richfield, MN, and Ralph (Nikki) Henderson, Boulder, Co; six great grandchildren, Eric Ramnes, Franklin Nevanen, Lucy Nevanen, Bert Henderson, Oscar Henderson, and Beatrix Wood.
