A memorial service for Jerry Thorson was held Saturday, May 26, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dwight Albers officiating. The organist was Marilana Sutter. Inurnment will be at a later date in God's Acres Cemetery, Clermont.

The casket bearers were Leslie White, Alan Steffans, Frank Hangartner, Brent Hanson, Neil Bodensteiner, Jim Halstead, Neil Lansing, and Robert Halvorson. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Lee Thorson was born September 27, 1952, in Postville to Clarence and Lillian (Thompson) Thorson. He passed away Monday, May 21 at his home in Clermont at the age of 54 years, 7 months and 24 days.

He was baptized November 16, 1952 by the Reverend F. B. Knudsen and confirmed June 4, 1967, by the Reverend Roger W. Peterson, both in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. He graduated from Valley High School in 1970. After high school Jerry completed a two year agriculture program at Iowa State University.

He was married in 1978 and later divorced. He had several occupations, which included farming, driving truck, and his last place of employment was Rupp Air Management System in West Union.

One of his favorite pastimes was participating in the Men's Bowling League, both individual and on a team. His other enjoyment was fishing on rivers and lakes here in Iowa and elsewhere. His other love was his long time friend, Sammy, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a niece, Carrie Thorson, and two great nephews, Dustin and Chad Roberts.

Surviving are two sisters, Lydia (Gene) Murphy, Clermont, Elaine (Enis) Elagoz, Izmir, Turkey, a brother, Roger (Diane) Thorson, Elgin; 10 nieces and nephews, David (JoAnn) Schneider, Ed Schneider, Karen (Dave) Roberts, LuAnn (Jeff) Alber, Gary (Lisa) Schneider, Melinda (Brian) Schroeder, Corey (Amy), Sheena, and Dustin Thorson, and Derin Elagoz, step nieces, Brooke Lueder, Nicole Lueder, and a step nephew, Steven Lueder, Ansi and Yanki Elagoz; 19 great nieces and nephews, Marcy (Larry Hoffman), Darren (Marcy) Schneider, Kristin (John) Kelly, Leann (Sam) Sadler, Kimberly (Wesley) Moore, Ricky and Layne Schneider, Terra (Tony) Bracy, Katie Roberts, Shannon and Shawn Alber, Jessica (Craig) Moser, Jamie (Mike) Germann, Joshua (Whitney) Schneider, Jason Schneider, Derek and Justin Schroeder, and Samantha Mather; and 18 great great nieces and nephews, Ellie Jo, Nolan and Ethan Hoffman, Sydney, Laney Schneider, Kathryn Kelly, Gabe and Jenne Sadler, Jonah and Zaida Moore, Kensie and Kylee Bracy, Dylan and Avery Malloy, Clay Moser, Jacob and Tate Germann, and Owen Schneider; Karleigh Thorson.
