Clarence Thorson

Funeral services for Clarence T. Thorson were held Saturday, March 25, 1989 at 1:30 p.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont. The Rev. Donald Loots officiated. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the God's Acre Cemetery.

Clarence Theodore Thorson, son of Andreas and Hannah (Kittelson) Thorson was born December 18, 1901 on a farm near Clermont. He died Tuesday, March 21 at Veterans Medical Center, Knoxville, IA.

He was baptized January 19, 1902 and confirmed October 8, 1916 at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. He attended the Clermont Schools and graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, IA in 1924.

On May 12, 1928 he married Lydia Anderson, who preceded him in death. They had one daughter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On March 4, 1945 he married Lillian Thompson at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA. They had 3 children. He farmed in the rural Clermont area until 1980 when he retired.

"Gubby" was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He also enjoyed flying from the Clermont airport.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia, his parents, one sister, Leona, in infancy, one brother, Alphia Thorson, one granddaughter, Carrie Thorson and 2 great-grandsons, Dustin and Chad Roberts.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; 2 daughters, Lydia (Mrs. Gene Murphy), Bernard, IA and Elaine (Mrs. Enis Elagoz) of Izmir, Turkey; 2 sons, Jerry, Clermont and Roger, Elgin; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Casket Bearers: David Schneider, Ed Schneider, Gary Schneider, Mark Thorson, Robert Thompson, William Bacon.

Honorary Casket Bearers: Clarence Kittelson, Merril Gunderson, Orville Berg, James Taylor, Richard Olson, Gerald Schneider.
