Funeral For Duane Wedo

Funeral services for Duane R. Wedo, 45, Waukon, former Waukon businessman, were held Monday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. in St. John's Lutheran church, Waukon, with the Rev. Marlyn Hansing officiating.

He died Friday, March 11 in Veterans hospital in Iowa City.

He was born July 1, 1931 in Clermont to Charles and Margaret Sampson Wedo. He was a graduate of the Postville schools and married Bernice Ellingson Opheim Nov. 21, 1955 in Waukon. He was a former feed store retailer in Waukon, a farmer and milk hauler. He was a past president of St. John's congregation, a member of Toastmasters and the American Legion and served in the Korean conflict.

Surviving are his parents, his wife; two sons, James of Germany and Mark of Denver, CO; a daughter Joan of Mason City; two stepsons, Lyle and John Opheim, both of Postville; a grandchild; three brothers, LaVerne and Robert of Postville and Lewis of Decorah, and a sister, Mrs. Henry (Betty) Flack of Castalia.

A brother, Charles, Jr., preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were Vernis Engelhardt, Hartley Enyart, Sr., Claude Schafer, Merton Palmer, Morris Svendson and L. C. Smock. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery with military rites at graveside.

Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
