GLEN JAMES NYGAARD
Glen James Nygaard, son of Gunder and Ella (Ostlie) Nygaard, was born September 17, 1909, in Fayette county near Clermont, IA. He died Wednesday, July 10, 1991, in the Manor Care Center at Cedar Rapids, IA.
Funeral services for Glen Nygaard, 81, were held Saturday, July 13, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont. The Rev. Donald Loots officiated. Patricia Butikofer, organist, accompanied Arthur Amundson who sang "How Great Thou Art." Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in God's Acres Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Leon Griebenow, Lowell Lyngaas, Merlin Chapman, Larry Mead, Mario Castro and George Meaney.
He was baptized October 3, 1909, by Rev. Bursett in the East Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed May 18, 1924, by Rev. Gunsten in the West Clermont Lutheran Church. He attended Woodland and Clermont Schools. He was a member of West Clermont Lutheran Church and had served on the Clermont City Council.
On November 25, 1935, he married Alice H. Lyngaas. They had two daughters. They farmed on Glen's grandfather's farm for ten years and then moved to Clermont. He had been employed as a carpenter and worked on construction. He drove school bus for the Valley Schools for 23 years. Before his retirement he had been employed by Clermont Implement.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alice, who died April 17, 1980 and a brother, Clarence.
Surviving are two daughters, Glendal and her husband, Leo Pittman, Fullerton, CA; and Pauline Hoth, Cedar Rapids, IA; four grandchildren, Tom Pittman, Susan Daley, Laurie Mead and Paula Castro; and ten great-grandchildren.
