Funeral services for James "Jazz" White were held Tuesday, Jan. 18, 1983 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont. The Reverend Kim Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls, Iowa.

James Orville White, son of Har_y* H. and Alma (Mahlstedt) White, was born Dec. 12, 1924 in Chickasaw County, near Nashus, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 1983 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.

He was baptized March __*, 1953 and attended school in Nashua.

"Jazz" had lived in Cedar Falls since 1940. On June 24, 1950 he was married to Melba Gregory at Dubuque, Iowa. To this union five children were born. He had served as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was employed at John Deere Tractor Works for 31 years. They moved to Clermont in 1977. On June 31, 1978 he retired.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elnora.

Surviving besides his wife Melba, are three sons, James L. of Decorah, Timothy of Elgin and Todd of Clermont, two daughters, Mrs. William (Charlene) Ahlf of Cedar Falls and Penny, at home; five grandchildren; five brothers, Anson of Waterloo, Kenneth, Ellis and Junior, all of Cedar Falls and Virgil of Des Moines, and four sisters, Mrs. Matthew (Eva) White of Charles City, Doris Baerwald, Vera Ingersoll and Mrs. George (Shirley) Calkins, all of Cedar Falls.

He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church in Clermont and the Amvets and the American Legion at Cedar Falls.
