ARLINGTON - Funeral services for George Marvin Gusta will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept 13, at the United Methodist Church in Arlington, with the Rev. Laurie Riley officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Hazleton. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Arlington American Legion. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, and for one hour before services at the church Saturday.
Mr. Gusta, 74, died Thursday morning, Sept. 11, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness.
He was born Feb. 20, 1923, in Elkader, the son of Ernest and Leona (Kluth) Gusta. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of W orId War II. On April 5, 1944, he married Genevieve Helen McClain at Arlington. He farmed near Arlington until retiring in 1984. The couple moved to Arlington in June 1996. Mr. Gusta was a member of the Arlington United Methodist Church and the Arlington American Legion Dean Harkin Post 219.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; two sons, Keith and fiancée, Diane Klima, and Dennis (Lynnette), all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Gusta of Oelwein; and one sister, Ruth Vargason of Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society for leukemia research.
