ARLINGTON - Funeral services for Wendell K. Myers will be 11 am. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the United Methodist Church, Arlington, with the Rev. Laurie Riley officiating. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga, with graveside military rites conducted by the Arlington American Legion Dean Harkin Post 219. There will be no visitation. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Arlington, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Myers, 83, died Saturday afternoon, Sept. 13, 1997, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a long illness.
He was born Jan. 2, 1914, in LaHarppe, Ill., the son of James Franklin and Pearl (Lantz) Myers. He graduated from Charles City High School. On Nov. 4, 1936, he married Effie Iris Bachtell at Indianola. Mr. Myers was an Army veteran and later a Navy veteran of World War II. He was in the egg business in Arlington for 12 years, and then farmed in the area. He later, worked at Crawford Implement for 20 years. After retirement, he worked at Backbone State Park in Strawberry Point. He was a member of Arlington United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Strawberry Point Masonic Lodge 130 A.F. & A.M., and the Arlington American Legion Dean Harkin Post 219.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Myers of Elkader, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Effie, March 17, 1997; one sister; and one brother.
Memorials may be made to the Arlington United Methodist Church.
