Reginald Walls

Reginald Dudley Walls, 74, Clermont, died August 4 after a lingering illness. He was a former resident and former Justice of the Peace of Postville.

He was born April 19, 1905, in South Glen Falls, NY, the son of William Dudley Walls and Lillian (Rose) Walls. After high school he joined the old U. S. Cavalry and was stationed in Brownsville, Tx. Upon discharge he worked for a year as a cowboy on the King Ranch in Texas. He began his civilian career with the Department of Defense, U. S. Army, as Procurement Analyst at Ft. Monmouth, N. J. From there he went to Fort Huachucha, AZ. as head Procurement for Research and Development at the newly activated Electronic Proving Grounds. Then followed a period at the Pentagon in Washington, D. C. as Procurement advisor to the Assistant Secretary of the Army. After a temporary tour of duty in Vietnam for the State Department he was sent to West Germany. The last six years before retirement was spent in Frankfurt, Germany, as Project Manager for the Field Office of UNICOM/STARCOM.

After retirement he served as Justice of the Peace in Postville until that office was abolished. After that he was elected State President of Iowa for the National Association of Retired Federal Workers. He was a member of the Postville Kiwanis Club and a past president. He was active in this work until ill health forced his retirement in 1978.

In 1956 he was united in marriage to Palma Helgerson Gustafson. He is survived by his wife, Palma; step-son, Paul Gustafson of Oxon Hill, MD; step-grandson, Robert Gustafson of College Station, TX; step-granddaughter, Karin Gustafson of New Haven, CT; a sister, Thelma (Walls) Trask of Fort Meyers, FL; and one brother, Roy of Punta Gordo, FL.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour [sic] in Clermont. The Rev. E. R. Sims officiated. Burial was in the East Clermont Cemetery. Schutte Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
