Services held for Elvina Walvatne

Services were held for Elvina Walvatne, 74, of West Union Friday, Aug. 2 at Bethany Lutheran Church, West Union, with internment at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery in West Union. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home of West Union was in charge of arrangements.

Elvina Myrtle, daughter of Peter and Nora (Kleppe) Walvatne, was born July 24, 1917 at Castalia. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Ossian. She attended country school up to the eighth grade.

Elvina worked as a cook at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, at the Good Samaritan Center and the Town House, both in West Union and was employed at the Iowa Turkey Plant in Postville. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, was Sunday School teacher, secretary/treasurer of Bethany Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Mission Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Myrtle Elvina in infancy; and one brother, Palmer Walvatne in 1989.

She is survived by one brother, Lawrence; two sisters, Josie Johnson and Marjorie Jermeland, all of West Union.
