Services held on Nov. 2, for Lawrence Walvatne
Funeral services for Lawrence Leo Walvatne, 82, West Union, were held Monday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m., in Bethany Lutheran Church, West Union. Rev. Richard Vettrus officiated. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements with interment in Bethany Lutheran Cemetery.
Lawrence passed away on Oct. 29, at Maple Crest Manor, Fayette.
Lawrence Leo Walvatne, son of Peter and Nora (Kleppe) Walvatne, was born Nov. 14, 1909 near Castalia. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church, Ossian, Later transferring his membership to Bethany Lutheran Church. He attended rural schools in Dover Township.
On Feb. 23, 1935 he was united in marriage to Mayme L. Helgerson, and to this union were born two children. They farmed in Fayette County until 1968, when they moved to West Union. He then worked for Frey's Mobile Home for a number of years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Myrtle and Elvina; and a brother, Palmer.
Lawrence Walvatne is survived by his wife, Mayme; a son, Mervin, Ariz.; a daughter, LouAnn (Mrs. Kenneth) Ellingson, Spencer; two grandchildren, Daniel and Tina; two sisters, Josie Johnson and Margie (Mrs. Norman) Jermeland, both of West Union; sister-in-law, Merna Walvatne, West Union; and many nieces and nephews.
