Barney Yauslin

Funeral services for Barney Yauslin were held Saturday, April 11, 1998 at 1 p.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Elgin, IA. The Rev. Arley Ellingson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in God's Acre Cemetery, rural Clermont, IA.

Byron "Barney" John Yauslin, the son of John and Amelia (Winkleman) Yauslin, was born April 16, 1898, in rural Fayette County, west of Clermont, IA. He passed away Thursday, April 9, 1998 in the Good Samaritan Center at West union, IA. He had reached the age of 99 years, 11 months and 23 days.

He attended the rural school near his home. On September 30, 1925, Barney was married to Ruby Madeline Hader at Elkader, IA. To this union eight children were born. For a short time, the couple lived in Ottawa, Illinois and Cedar Rapids, IA. They moved to Clermont, IA where Barney worked for Clermont Brick and Sand.

Barney learned to hunt and fish at an early age and continued to do so until he was in his 80s. He and Ruby were married for over 70 years. Barney became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in West Union on August 1, 1990.

Barney was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Elgin, IA.

He is survived by his family, Betty (Leonard) Olson of West Union, Lois and (sic) Luchsinger and Bob Burrow, both of Clermont, Dorothy Williams of Oelwein, Don Yauslin of Cedar Rapids, John (Janice) Yauslin of Clermont, Leslie (Janice) Yauslin of Rockford, IL, Roger (Linda) Yauslin of Elgin. Also surviving are 27 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and five step-great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruby, who died August 14, 1997; two great grandsons, Joshua Yauslin and Keith Williams; a daughter-in-law Janet Yauslin; four sons-in-law Don Gordon, Alfred Boleyn, Lester Luchsinger, Herb Williams; two brothers Glen and Harry; and four sisters, Emily, Millie, Jessie and Pearl.

Casketbearers were Norman, James and Bradley Boleyn; Kenny, Gary, Bill and Rockie Williams; Jerry, David, Ronald, Darin, Erin, Jeff and Brian Yauslin; Scott Luchsinger.
