Rev. Clarence E. Drummy 1900 - 1976

Rev. Clarence E. Drummy, 75, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Waucoma, for 32 years to the day, died at St. Mary's Rectory Tuesday, June 22, 1976, of an apparent heart attack.

He was born July 23, 1900, near Ryan, the son of William and Elizabeth (Kehoe) Drummy. He attended the Ryan school and Loras College, Dubuque. He was ordained a priest in 1929 and was beginning his 49th year as a priest at the time of his death.

Funeral concelebrated mass was held Friday, June 25, with Bishop Francis J. Dunn, Dubuque, presiding. Seventy-eight of the 84 priests present, concelebrated the mass.

The body lay in state in St. Mary's church from noon Thursday, until the time of the funeral Friday.

The visitation was greatly attended, not only by Waucoma people, but by his many friends throughout the area. The Catholic Order of Foresters, the Knights of Columbus, Rosary Societies, Legion of Mary and Catholic Daughters of America, conducted prayer hours during the vigil.

Knights of Columbus formed an honor guard. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased. Larkin-Martin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangemens.

Father Ray Brannon, Manresa Retreat House, Azusa, California, long-time friend of Father Drummy, delivered the funeral address. In­terment services were conducted at Calvary cemetery, Ryan, by Rev. Matthew F. Beeler. Burial was in the family plot.

He served as pastor at Sacred Heart church in Riley Ridge and at St. Anthony's, before coming to Waucoma.

He is survived by his sister, Mrs. W.S. (Bernice) O'Brien, Ryan, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers, Msgr. William J. Drummy, his twin brother; Rev. Clair C. Drummy; Earl A. Drummy; Patrick Drummy; Anthony Drummy; Thomas Drummy; James Drummy; Vincent Drummy; Dennis Drummy; and a sister, Mrs. Katherine McNamara.
