Funeral services for Gilbert Hanson were held Thursday, July 10, 1986, at 10:30 a.m. at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville, with Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiating. Interment was in East Clermont cemetery, rural Postville. Casket bearers were James Brandt, Donald Hanson, Charles I. Deering, Craig Deering, Roger Bechtel and Kenneth Arrington. Schutte Funeral Service, Postville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Gilbert Haaken Hanson, son of Andrew and Gunda (Erickson) Hanson, was born November 12, 1890, in Clermont. He died July 8, 1986, at the home of his daughter in Postville.

He was baptized and confirmed at East Cler­mont Lutheran church. He served in the US Army during World War I, and was a member of the American Legion Sheehan Olson Post #375 of Clermont.

On February 26, 1919, he married Madga A. Larson. They were parents of five children. He was a carpenter in the Clermont area all of his life.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Magda, who died in 1927; son, Louis Dean; his parents; four brothers, Edon, Oscar, Gustav and Louie; four sisters, Josie Emma, Inga and Alma; one granddaughter, Mavis Ostlie; and one great-grandson, Michael Deering.

Survivors include one son, Dale, Postville; three daughters, Mrs. Verni (Mildred) Brandt, Clermont; Mrs. Charles (Bernice) Thomas, Postville; Mrs. Eugene (Doris) Malecki, Arlington Heights, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Martha Davis, Waterloo.
