MAYNARD - Irene E. Trower, 98, of Maynard, died Friday morning Feb. 23, 2007 at Grandview HealthCare Center, Oelwein, after a long illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Maynard with the Rev. Darwin Moore officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard. A memorial fund has been established.
Irene Esther Kaune was born on July 24, 1908 at rural Oelwein, the daughter of Albert and Alice (Jipson) Kaune. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1925. Irene was united in marriage to George Edward Trower. They farmed in the Maynard area until they retired and moved to Maynard in 1969. Irene was a member of the former Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Maynard. She enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her two sons, Garland Trower of Maynard and Bernie (Helen) Trower of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren, Phyllis (Laverne) Decker of Independence, Pam (Duane) Walker of Oelwein, Jacquie (Ralph) Heinze of Jesup, Don (Kathy) Trower of Bakersfield, Calif., Barb Trower of Bakersfield, Calif., David (Susan) Trower of Waterloo, Jim (Karla) Trower of Cedar Falls, John (Pam) Trower of St. Charles, Minn., Janann Trower of Waterloo, Allan (Judy) Graesch of Urbandale and Marcia (Dan)
Hughson of Sumner; 25 great grandchildren; 22 great -great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband George in 1977; a daughter Alice Graesch; and three brothers Arnold, Ivan and Delbert Kaune.
