Gerald J. "Jack" Macheak Jr.
OELWEIN - Gerald John "Jack" Macheak Jr., 69, lost his battle with cancer Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007. He was in the comfort of his own home, with his family by his side.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at Grace United Methodist Church in Oelwein, with an open luncheon following at the American Legion Hall.
Jack was born in Manchester, Iowa May 20, 1937, to Letha Madison and Gerald John Macheak Sr. He graduated from Lamont High School and went on to join the United States Air Force in 1955. He retired in 1977. Following his retirement, he worked and volunteered his time at the Oelwein American Legion Post for several years.
Jack had many hobbies and kept himself busy in his free time. He enjoyed golfing, camping, reading, fishing, cooking and spending time with his children. He was a movie buff, but his true love was pulling a good prank on his family and friends.
Jack married Carol Creighton and had three sons, Michael, Tony and Darren. They divorced and he later married Susan Woodson and had three daughters, Melissa, Nicole and Amy.
Jack is survived by two sons, Tony and Darren Macheak; three daughters, Melissa (Ben) Meyer, Nicole Macheak and Amy (Daryn) Lickiss; one sister, Sharon (Dan) Gaffney; and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael; his mother-in-law, Gladys; a brother-in-law, Jackie; a sister-in-law, Tracey; and a nephew, Kevin John.
Jack will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. All the support given throughout his illness was appreciated by everyone.
