OELWEIN - Elizabeth "Betty" M. Koob, 82, of Oelwein, died Tuesday evening, Jan. 30, 2007, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m Saturday, Feb. 3, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, south of Oelwein.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Marcia (Mrs. Steven) Stille of Charleston, W.Va.; three sons, Fred (wife Judy) Koob of Davison, Mich., Darwin Koob of Southwest Harbor, Maine, and Robert (wife Eileen) Koob of Oelwein; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Roberta Ann (Mrs. Norman) Olsen of Latimer; and an aunt, Donna Burgus of Kissimmee, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Reuben H. Koob, April 15, 1988; and a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Koob.
Elizabeth May Kalm was born June 23, 1924, at Oelwein, the daughter of Donald Edward and Lois (Carvey) Kalm. She graduated from Oelwein High School. Betty married Reuben H. Koob on April 15, 1945, at Oelwein. She was a homemaker and worked as an office clerk for Dr. D.J. Ottillie in Oelwein for seven years and later worked at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein for 10 years retiring in 1989.
Betty was a lifelong Oelwein resident, was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She had been a resident at the Oelwein Health Care Center since August 2004.
