WEST UNION - Funeral services for Clara Lauer will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, with burial in the West Union Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Friday at Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union.
Mrs. Lauer, 94, died Wednesday, May 27, 1998, at the Oelwein Health Care Center, following a short illness.
She was born Jan. 20, 1904, in Davenport, the daughter of Gustave and Amelia Eckstein Buhmann. She married Clarence Lauer on Oct. 14, 1926, on her family’s farm near Fayette. Mrs. Lauer was a homemaker. She also worked 25 years at Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union, as a nurse's aide and supply clerk. She had been a resident at Oelwein Health Care Center since December 1991.
Survivors include three daughters, Alice (Edwin) Gunderman of Fulda, Minn., Darlene Briggs of Fayette, and Velda Mae Lauer of Oelwein; two sons, Russell (Shirley) of West Union, and George of Clinton; 16 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Florence) Buhmann of Fayette; one sister, Edna Nading of Fayette; and a sister-in-law, Fern Buhmann of Randalia.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence in 1950; four great-grandchildren; two sisters; and five brothers.
