OELWEIN - Paul A. Lehs, 88, of Oelwein, died Wednesday morning, Jan 24, 2007, at Mercy Living Plus after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 27, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Leo Combs-Lay officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, 221 N. Frederick, Oelwein, and after 1 p.m, Saturday at the church.
Paul Anton Lehs was born on Oct. 27, 1918, at Spekendorf, Germany, the son of Stanley and Anna Wilhelmina (Wessels) Lehs. Paul Was baptized on Nov 10, 1918, at St. Mary's Catholic Church Spekendorf, by the, Rev. Von Hoehne. Paul moved to the United States in 1922 at the age of four. His family farmed at rural Arlington and then at rural Maynard. Paul was confirmed on April 5, 1935, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Strawberry Point, by the Rev. Jahr.
Paul was united in marriage to Alma Sophie Pipho on Nov. 7, 1953, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein, by the Rev. Dieter. Paul farmed near Maynard for many years. He retired and later moved to Oelwein in 1996. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Alma Lehs of Oelwein; three daughters, Nancy Laabs (Mike Meyer) of Hazleton, Sandra (Louie) Schwan of Edmond, Okla., and Janet (Myron) Arthur of Maynard; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and one step-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Heinz (Arlene) Lehs of Oelwein and John (Ruth) Lehs of Winthrop; three sisters, Gerda (the Rev. Al) Hock of Strawberry Point, Wilma Keppler of Oelwein and Mary Ann Knight of Oelwein; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Randolph and Martin.
A memorial fund has been established.
