Louis "Dave" Greco
OELWEIN - Louis "Dave" Greco, 84, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein after a short illness.
Funeral services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick C. Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Friends may call from 3 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Geilenfeld Funeral Home, 309 First Ave. N.E., Oelwein, with a 4 p.m. parish rosary.
Dave was born July 21, 1922, in Oelwein, the son of Pasquale and Emilie (Dedeco) Greco. He graduated from Oelwein Sacred Heart High School in 1940 then attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette for two years. Dave married Elizabeth "Bette" Wolfe on Nov 6, 1950, at Independence. He worked as a car-man for the Chicago Great Western Railroad in Oelwein and served nine years on the Oelwein Police Department.
Dave was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Senior Citizens. He was a third and fourth degree Knight with the Oelwein Knights of Columbus Council 1168 and a, member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen.
Survivors include his wife, Bette of Oelwein; two daughters, Sue (Gerald) Powers of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Amy (Greg) Welden of Rimrock, Ariz.; six sisters, Carrie Greco of Oelwein, Rosemary Belding of Independence, Julia Caparelli of Council Bluffs, Maggie (Don) Steimel of Newhall, Frances "Danny" (Dick) Youngblut of Denver, Colo., and Josie (Jim) Lilly of Cedar Falls; a brother, John (Bonnie) Greco of North Platte, Neb., and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial fund has been established.
