OELWEIN - Funeral services for Edna Mae Childers will be 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. Anita Bane officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m., Sunday, and from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Childers, 78, died suddenly Thursday afternoon, Sept 19, 1996, at Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union.
She was born Feb. 22, 1918, in Aredale, the daughter of John and Ila (Payne) Miller. She married Harold J. Childers on Feb. 24, 1936 in Elkader. He preceded her in death June 1, 1966. Mrs. Childers had been a resident of Oelwein since 1962. Before retiring, she had worked as a cook at the New Home Cafe and Kennedy's Super Valu, both in Oelwein. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include six sons, Gene of Kamiah, Idaho, David of West Union, Robert of Salem, Wis., Harold J. "Butch" of Arlington, Ronald and Mark, both of Oelwein; four daughters, Jeanette (Don) Gossard of Elgin, ND., Betty (Gary) Bass, Judy (Larry) Brewer, and Sandra Richardson, all of Oelwein; 44 grandchildren; and 67 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; two grandchildren; four brothers; and one sister.
