OELWEIN - Funeral services for Robert L. Manship will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Charles M. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Friends may call anytime after 3:30 p.m. today (Monday) at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, where there will be a Masonic Lodge service at 7: 30. Mr. Manship, 68, died at his home Friday, Nov. 8, 1996, of a heart attack.
He was born April 22, 1928, in Le Grande, the son of Omar John and Amy H. (Radloff) Manship. He grew up in the Hummboldt area, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1947, and from Iowa State University in 1951. On Feb. 17, 1950, he married Mary Lou Anderson in Humboldt. The couple moved to Marion, Ohio for a short time, from there to Fremont, Neb., and settled in Oelwein on Oct. 4, 1953. He worked for Dekalb Genetics Corp. in Oelwein for 35 years, retiring June 7, 1986. After his retirement, he worked part time at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home and Buds and Blossoms in Oelwein. Mr. Manship was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir; the Oelwein Hebron Masonic Lodge #374 A.F. & A.M.; Oelwein Chapter 130, Oelwein Council 52, and Mt.Tabor 71 of the El Kahir Shrine Temple; the Tin Lizzies; Oelwein Ad Hoc Building Committee; Kids Playground Fund; Pheasants Forever; and was a Meals on Wheels Driver. He also served on the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home board.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; one son, Steve (Terri) of Waverly; one daughter, Mary Jo (Gordon) Kunkle of Hazleton; four grandchildren; two sisters, Joanne (Jens) Nielsen of Oelwein and Linda (Donald) Heggen of Long Grove; and three aunts, Betty Stover of Geneva, N.Y., Carolyn Radloff of Marshalltown and Henrietta Manship of Van Horne.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three uncles, Raymond, Truman and Norman.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
