OELWEIN - Funeral services for Mabel Vargason will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Dale Rausch officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Vargason, 82, died Friday, Nov 21, 1997, at Mercy Living Plus, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 27, 1915, on a farm near Elkader, the daughter of Clem and Lulu (Chase) Moran. She attended Elkader schools. She married Theodore "Ted" Vargason. He preceded her in death April 26, 1978. Mrs. Vargason had worked as a waitress and was an Avon representative for more than 30 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, David (Dian) Moran of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Richard (Phoebe) Vargason of Oelwein; one daughter, Sandy (Gordy) Huffman of Oelwein; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Katherine Luther of Albuquerque, N,M.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; one daughter, Margaret Kraft; and two grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
