OELWEIN - Funeral services for Irvin Carl Schima will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 24, at Sacred Heart Catholic, Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, with military graveside rites performed by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post 9. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. today (Monday) at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a parish scripture service at 7: 30 p.m.
Mr. Schima, 91, died Friday morning, June 20, 1997, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein. He had maintained his own home until being hospitalized on Wednesday.
He was born June 18, 1906, at Occoma, S.D., the son of Victor H. and Libbie (Kos) Schima. He graduated from high school and then married Evelyn Marie Shepherd on Dec 8, 1929, in Hazleton. Mr. Schima was a Navy Seabee in the Pacific during World War II. He had farmed near Tripoli and was a mechanic at Nashua, Osage and King Implement, Oelwein. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Frazee of Minneapolis, Minn.; a granddaughter, Caitlin Frazee of Minneapolis; two sisters, Marie Dibble of Independence, and Dorothy Campbell of Hazleton; and two brothers, Leo of Oelwein, and Victor of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn, Feb. 14, 1995; two brothers, Joe and Ernest; and three sisters, Amelia Anderson, Irene Bartz and Rose Fettkether.
