James B. Feltus
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - James B. Feltus, 76, retired from School District No. 11 as director of transportation, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 1998, at a Colorado Springs hospital.
He was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Oelwein, the son of George R. and El Marie (Harold) Feltus. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1939 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942. He graduated from twin engine advanced flying school in 1943 and served in the Air Force on active duty until 1946 as a pilot and instructor for B-24, B-17 and B-29 aircraft. He bore the distinction of flying one of the first B-29s ever assembled. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserves in 1958 as a Major. He married Jean Gusewelle on March 23, 1947. Mr. Feltus was active in public school transportation in Colorado. He had lived in Colorado Springs since 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; one son, James W. (Vallerie) of Gig Harbor, Wash.; one daughter, Jan Marie (Roddy) Coquat of Weatherford, Texas; two grandchildren; a brother, Robert H. of Colorado Springs; and a sister, Dorothy Leehey of Swampscott, Mass.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John C. in 1987.
Friends may call from 1 until 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Shrine of Remembrance, 1730 East Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs. Cremation is planned.
