OELWEIN - Funeral services for Helen M. Moriarty will be 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, at Floral Hills Memorial Chapel, rural Oelwein, where there will be a 7 p.m. rosary. Mrs. Moriarty, 73, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 15, 1996, at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 23, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y.,
the daughter of John and Catherine (McNift) Walsh.
On Nov. 19, 1945, she married Thomas Moriarty in Brooklyn. Mrs. Moriarty had been a homemaker, as well as a waitress and telephone operator before her retirement. She had been a resident of Oelwein for the past 14 years, residing the past two months with her daughter, Pat Buenger. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas, of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Michael of Florida; two daughters, Pat (Al) Buenger of Oelwein, and Kathy Hines of Florida; a special friend, Charles Williamson of Science Hill, Ky.; 10 grandchildren, including Linda Keeley of Oelwein; one step-grandson; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas, Feb. 17, 1959; one daughter, Kimberly in February 1993; a sister, Mary Carver of Carmel, N.Y.; and a brother, John Walsh of Brooklyn.
