FAYETTE - Funeral services for Arthur Everitt will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Volga, with the Rev. Jerome Godson and the Rev. Peter Bodensteiner officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, at the Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Mr. Everitt, 79, died at his home Saturday morning, Dec. 13, 1997, after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 18, 1918, in, Wadena, the son of Edward and Charmean (Harvey) Everitt. They moved to the Volga area in 1925. He attended the Rock School in Sperry, Township and graduated from Volga High School in 1936. He went into farming with his father. On Dec. 20, 1941, he married Viola Miller at the Church of Christ parsonage in Arlington. He farmed for a time, but had to quit due to poor health. He did some mechanical work and purchased a grocery store in Volga, which he operated until 1957. He then returned to farming until his wife's death July 17, 1987, at which time he retired. He married Olivia Bodensteiner Ward on Feb. 19, 1991, in Lawler. The couple lived in Fayette.
Survivors include his wife, Olivia: two sons, Doug (Shirley) of Davenport, and Dick (Paula) of Volga; two stepsons; six stepdaughters; six grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Viola.
