OELWEIN - Funeral services for Robert T. O'Brien will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn
Cemetery, Oelwein. Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, where there will be a parish scripture service at 4 p.m. Mr. O'Brien, 83, died at his home Friday, Jan. 23, 1998, after a sudden illness.
He was born March 5, 1914, in Cascade, the son of William and Sybil (Conlon) O'Brien. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1931. He served from 1941 to 1945 with the US. Army and was stationed in France, Germany and Belgium during World War II. He married Kathleen R. Mullaley on Dec. 28, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Mr. O'Brien worked 43 years as an auditor for Interstate Power Company, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and past president of the Oelwein Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen; two daughters, Patricia (Craig) Beyer of Holstein, and Mary (Dave) Orman of Ottumwa; three sons, Tim (Deb) of Oelwein, John of South Bend, Ind., and Jimmy of Oelwein, several grandchildren; one sister, Marie (Howard) Connolly of Rosemead,, Calif.; and one brother, Tommy (Doris) of Dubuque.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Bernice, Janet; Katie and Jean; and one brother, Jimmy.
A memorial fund has been established.
