OELWEIN - Funeral services for Rowena G. Smith will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating. Burial will be in the Hazleton Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Friday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Smith, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a short
illness.
She was born March 13, 1916, in Wadena, the daughter of Oscar and Mabel (Steffhagen) Lamphier. She graduated from Volga High School in 1934, and was the last surviving member of the class. She
married Fred Dean Smith. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and rosary society.
Survivors include two sons, Tom (Mary) of Marion, and Jim (Martha) of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; one daughter, Carol (Russ) Lohrer of Oelwein; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald and Lyle Lamphier, both of Oelwein, and Orville Lamphier of Fayette; five stepsons, Carl, Don, Bob, Bus, and Bill; and four stepdaughters, Doris, Mardelle Clendenen, Lola and Shirley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Fred; one sister, Hazel, and three brothers; Erwin, Francis and Leonard Lamphier. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
