OELWEIN - Funeral services for Daisy Dorothy Strempke will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Phyllis Wolkenhauer officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, rural Oelwein. Friends may call from 2 until 7 p.m. Friday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and after noon Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Strempke, 86, died Wednesday evening, March 25, 1998, at Grandview HealthCare Center, Oelwein, after a brief illness.
She was born March 27, 1911, at rural Raymond, the daughter of Albert and Blanche (Mahanna) Ohl. She attended Jesup High School and worked for Dr. Kowles, D.D.S., at Jesup. On June 20, 1931, she married Albert J. Strempke in Independence. The couple lived in the Fairbank/Dunkerton area until moving to Independence in 1957 where she was employed as a medication aide at the Mental Health Institute. After retiring, she moved back to Oelwein in 1975. Mrs. J Strempke had been a resident at Grandview HealthCare Center since February 1995. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Delores (Wesley) Sauerbrei of Readlyn; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Walter (Marion) Ohl and Leslie Ohl, both of Oelwein; four sisters, Isabelle McMillan, Ada Fleming, Laura Bates and Donna Fish, all of Oelwein; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, Sept. 13, 1996; four brothers, Phillip, Clyde, LeRoy and Robert Ohl; and one sister, Mabel Campbell.
Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Grandview HealthCare Center.
