Leon 'Moan' Galer
OELWEIN - Leon "Moan" Galer died Monday, May 4, 1998, at his home following a short illness. Cremations was held and there will be no funeral services. Arrangements were made by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory in Cedar Rapids.
Mr. Galer was born May 2, 1914, in Garber, the son of James and Mary Margaret Galer. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Geneva Burger on Sept. 5, 1945, in Fort Madison. Mr. Galer had been employed by the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad for more than 40 years. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the V.F .W. Blaisdell-Barnes Post 1725, and the American Legion Ross Reid Post 9, all of Oelwein. Survivors include his wife, Geneva, and two sisters, Betty Rechkemmer of Oelwein, and Juanita Parsons of Maynard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry; and two brothers, Paul and Ralph Galer.
