OELWEIN - Funeral services for LaVerne LeRoy Kohlmeyer will be 11 a.m. Friday, April 24, at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. Phyllis Wolkenhauer officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, with military graveside rites performed by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post 9. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Mr. Kohlmeyer, 77, died Wednesday morning, April 22, 1998, at Grandview HealthCare Center, Oelwein, after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 12, 1920, at rural Hawkeye, the son of Walter John and Ella Bertha (Weiher) Kohlmeyer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On April 5, 1953, he married Betty Mae Paul at Maynard. Mr. Kohlmeyer farmed near Fayette until 1989, when he retired and moved to Oelwein. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Alan of Monona, and William "Bill" (Phyllis) of Springville; one daughter, Bonnie (Bernard) Suhr of Independence; six grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Kohlmeyer of Sumner; and one sister, Mary Ann (Lennie) Reisner of Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Robert; and one sister, Betty Mae, in infancy.
