WESTGATE - Funeral services for Donald M. Gordon will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at St. Peter Lutheran Church; Westgate, with the Rev. James Webster officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, and after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Mr. Gordon, 80, died suddenly at his home Sunday morning, Dec. 14, 1997.
He was born June 7, 1917, at rural Arlington, the son of Charles and Elfa (Nace) Gordon. He married Irma Brickman on Jan. 1, 1941 in Fairbank. Mr. Gordon farmed in the Fayette and Westgate areas until 1955. He also worked at Ruffs Elevator in Westgate and for the Fayette County Highway Department. A lifelong area resident, he was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, the Westgate Fire Department for 40 years where he had been fire chief, a former member of the Westgate City Council, and former vice president of the AAL Branch 1257.
Survivors include his wife, Irma; two sons, Larry (Cathie) and Lyle (Julie) both of Westgate; one daughter, Lois (Ed) Erickson of Maynard; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Fern Buhmann of Randalia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dale and one sister Lucile Kelly.
