OELWEIN - Funeral services for Glenn Carl Scheel will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. Richard B. Emery officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery Hazleton, with military graveside rites performed by the Oelwein American Legion Ross Reid Post 9. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr.Scheel, 79, died at his home Saturday evening, July 12, 1997, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 18, 1917, in Iowa Falls, the son of Carl and Susan (Winslow) Scheel. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1935. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the U.S. Air Force for a short time. Mr. Scheel worked for Firestone in Iowa Falls for 12 years. He married Annie Margit Larson on April 21, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple moved to Oelwein in 1949, where he worked for Oelwein Dairy Supply for 19 years. He then owned and operated Skateland in Oelwein for 38 years.
Survivors include his wife, Annie of Oelwein; two nieces; a brother-in-law, Einer (Marlene) Larson of Evansdale; foster-son, Tim (Alice) Lawrence, Andrea, Alicia and Jeremy, all of Oelwein; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
