OELWEIN - Funeral services for Dorothy J. Dempsey will be 2 p.m. Monday, June 22, at the Hintz-Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein, with the Rev. John Kerr officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where there will be a V.F.W. Auxiliary service at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Dempsey, 77, died Wednesday morning, June 17, 1998, at Grandview HealthCare Center, Oelwein, after a lengthy illness.
She was born April 27, 1921, in Oelwein, the daughter of Robert and Jeannete (Ewing) Enblom. She married Eugene W. Dempsey on April 26, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. The couple operated a restaurant on East Charles in Oelwein for a number of years. Mrs. Dempsey was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Women's Relief Corps, and Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include one brother, Joseph (Betty) Witkin of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Leah Witkin and Juanita Hanken, both of Oelwein; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene; four brothers, William, Robert, Gerald and Carl; and one sister, Rachel.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
