OELWEIN - Memorial services for Elma Janet Rohrig will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30, at the Christ United Presbyterian Church, Oelwein, with the Rev. John Kerr officiating. There will be no visitation. Her body has been donated to the University of Iowa. Inurnment will be at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein, at a later date. The Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rohrig, 85, died at her home Monday, May 25, 1998, after a sudden illness.
She was born March 10, 1913, at Oelwein, the daughter of Ray E. and Lizzie M. (Kelley) Smith. She married Clifford Oran Rohrig on Aug. 26, 1942, at Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Rohrig was a longtime Oelwein resident. She was a secretary at the Buchanan County Recorder's office, and for OCCO and Iowa Portable Mill, both in Oelwein. She had been a housemother for Chi Omega Sorority at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She was owner and operator of Elma’s Youth Shop in Oelwein for 17 years, retiring in 1984. Mrs. Rohrig was a member of Christ United Presbyterian Church and Marthanna Circle.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Karen Rohrig of Aurora; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford, April 30, 1964; and one son, John.
A memorial fund has been established for Christ United Presbyterian Church and the American Cancer Society.
