Alice Kemp Parker
YOUNGTOWN, Ariz. - Alice Kemp Parker, 93, of Youngtown, and formerly of Oelwein and Lamont, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at Cook Health Care Center, Youngtown.
She was born Sept. 22, 1904, in rural Fayette County, the daughter of Stephen T. and Caroline Hollister Payne. She graduated from Maynard High School in 1921 and attended Upper Iowa University. She received a B.S. from the University of Iowa in 1944, and an M.A. in 1948. She taught English at Iowa City Junior High School and at Upper Iowa University. She married Cecil R. Kemp, now deceased, in 1927. She married Kenneth Parker of Lamont, now deceased, in 1965.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Hinshaw of Sun City, Ariz., and Junetta Gillespie of Urbana, Ill.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Sidler of Waterloo, and Helen Davis of Sun City, Ariz.
Plans are being made for a memorial service to be held in Fayette County next summer. Best Funeral Services, Peoria, Ariz., are in charge of arrangements.
